Also known as: DONKEY
What it does
Open-source Grasshopper plugin from the Czech iGenD research project that lets architects build a structural analytical model in Grasshopper and get finite-element results back from the open-source OOFEM solver. It was developed for structural feedback during conceptual architectural design, and its results range from simple pass/fail flags to full mechanical data.
What it can calculate
- Linear static FE analysis of trusses, beams and shells (via OOFEM)
- Nodal displacements
- Strains and stresses
- Internal forces (axial, shear, bending moments)
- Cross-section resistance (utilization) ratio
Status
Identified with good confidence (described in Svoboda, Novák, Kurilla & Zeman, ‘A framework for integrated design of algorithmic architectural forms’, arXiv 1203.2499 / Advances in Engineering Software 2014, and in Kurilla’s 2017 CTU PhD thesis). GPLv3+. Unmaintained: iGenD project ran 2009–2013, project websites no longer resolve (2026); no current download verified.
