Challenge
Building new warehouses produces large embodied emissions; demolishing old ones wastes the carbon already spent. Material choice, lighter structures and adaptive reuse are the main levers.
Design questions
- What are the embodied emissions per m² of each design option?
- How much carbon does reusing the existing building save?
- Which elements and life-cycle stages dominate the footprint?
Where are the metrics, tools and case studies?
They appear automatically below under Connections, and in Obsidian under the
auto_properties.
Connections
- Case studies: Julia Godard Lombard, Katrin Rybinskiy, Khrystyna Verbitska, Lindsay Daphne Macuja, Sara Sulollari, Thomas Olsen, Vladi Kostecki
- Metrics: Biodiversity stress from materials, CapEx–OpEx ratio, Design for disassembly score, Embodied carbon intensity, Embodied carbon saved by reuse, Life-cycle impact by stage, Material reuse share, Social cost of carbon, Structural utilisation, Whole-life carbon
- Tools (via metrics): Bombyx, CO2mpare, Donkey, Karamba3D, LearnCarbon, One Click LCA
